Colombia earthquake death toll rises to 312
Official reports regarding the magnitude 7.4 earthquake that struck Colombia on August 10, 2026, have been updated. The death toll has risen to at least 312 people, including 24 minors, according to the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences. The disaster has left 4,611 people injured and 290 citizens missing.
The epicenter was located in San José del Palmar, Chocó, with the most significant damage concentrated in the Pacific region and the Coffee Axis. Major casualty counts include 144 deaths in Cali, 107 in Pereira, 12 in Quibdó, and 9 in Buenaventura. The emergency affects 15 departments and 471 municipalities, with total affected persons estimated at over 262,000.
While government agencies and the National Unit for Risk Management (UNGRD) have aligned their figures with forensic records, there have been previous discrepancies in official communications regarding the final victim count.
