Colombia earthquake leaves hundreds dead and causes bee swarm attack

An earthquake in Colombia has resulted in at least 240 deaths, over 1,300 injuries, and approximately 2,000 people missing. During the disaster, Hugo Kogan, an Argentine theater director, experienced a secondary emergency while attempting to evacuate in Manizales.

While Kogan was being directed to the plaza of the Catedral Basílica Metropolitana de Nuestra Señora del Rosario for safety, a subsequent tremor caused structures to collapse, exposing beehives. Kogan was caught in a swarm and suffered more than 50 bee stings. He was rushed to a hospital experiencing nausea, vomiting, and sweating; medical staff noted that the situation could have been fatal had he possessed any allergies.

Kogan is currently recovering with antibiotics and corticosteroids and is working to reschedule his travel back to Argentina. The affected region in Manizales continues to face power outages, circulation restrictions, and risks of further collapses.
