Colombia earthquake relief: Citizens mobilize in Santiago de Cali

Following a 7.4 magnitude earthquake that struck Colombia on Monday, August 10, residents in Santiago de Cali have mobilized to provide aid to affected communities and emergency services.

Donation centers have been established at the Jairo Varela plaza, the National Sports School, and in the southern sector of the city to manage the influx of supplies. Citizens are contributing prepared foods, hygiene kits, bedding, and essential tools for debris removal, such as helmets, shovels, and construction gloves.

Local authorities reported that while potable water supplies have been addressed in the initial phase, the scale of the disaster has necessitated the suspension of cultural activities, including the 30th edition of the Petronio Álvarez Pacific Music Festival. Most displaced families are staying with relatives, while a small number are being housed in the Coliseo del Pueblo.
