Colombia economic outlook: Inflation risks and tax revenue growth

Colombia is facing complex inflationary pressures. While overall inflation decelerated in July, pharmaceutical and dermatological products saw an annual increase of 8.20%, significantly outpacing the general inflation rate of 6.03%.

Economic analysts warn that inflation may rise toward 7% by the end of the year. A primary concern is the El Niño phenomenon, which is expected to cause droughts in October and November, potentially impacting food production and energy generation. While a lower exchange rate for the dollar may help reduce the cost of production inputs, the impact of climate-related shortages remains a major risk factor.

On the fiscal side, tax collection in Colombia reached an estimated $197.5 trillion through July, exceeding government expectations by 10.5% compared to the same period in 2025. This growth has been driven largely by domestic VAT, consumption taxes, and income tax.
