Colombia Education Minister Blames Cali Mayor for Campus Delay

Education Minister Daniel Rojas publicly accused Cali Mayor Alejandro Eder of failing to deliver the land needed for the Multicampus Universitario del Oriente. The national government has earmarked roughly 125 trillion Colombian pesos for the project, but Rojas said construction has stalled because the 59,000‑square‑metre parcel has not been officially transferred to the Ministry. He highlighted that around 130 students are currently receiving higher‑education classes in temporary facilities and that the plan is to expand to over 500 students by the second semester of 2026. Rojas urged the students to demand the land’s delivery and called on the municipal administration to honor previously announced commitments. The mayor’s office has not issued a response, and the dispute has intensified political tension between the national and local authorities.
