Colombia: ELN commander critiques government's political direction
Antonio García, a commander of the National Liberation Army (ELN) in Colombia, critiques a modern form of fascism described as “end times fascism.” This ideology is characterized as an alliance between the ultra-wealthy, fundamentalists, and extreme nationalists who seek to secure refuge for a privileged minority rather than preserving a common future for society.
García criticizes the government of Abelardo De La Espriella, alleging that despite campaign promises to include marginalized groups, the administration has reorganized the country using traditional elites and existing concentrations of economic and institutional power. He cites the aftermath of a 7.4 magnitude earthquake on August 10, which affected 15 departments and damaged approximately 150,000 homes, as an example of the government's failure to address the needs of the population.
