Colombia Environment Minister protects El Corchal and Golfo de Morrosquillo

Colombian Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Fabio Arjona, has assured that the El Corchal Sanctuary of Fauna and Flora and the Golfo de Morrosquillo will not be impacted by the Canal del Dique intervention works. Speaking at the Canal del Dique Forum in Sincelejo, Arjona addressed local concerns regarding the environmental effects of the project.

Arjona emphasized that national infrastructure development must integrate “green-gray infrastructure” solutions to balance construction with ecosystem and community protection. This approach is part of the government's ABC Agenda (Water, Biodiversity, and Communities), which aims to make nature conservation a prerequisite for regional development and security.

The Canal del Dique project covers an influence area of approximately 435,000 hectares, affecting 19 municipalities across the departments of Bolívar, Atlántico, and Sucre, with an estimated impact on 1.5 million inhabitants.
