Colombia expands agrarian school program to 80 rural colleges

Colombia's Ministry of Education has launched an agrarian school strategy that now covers 80 rural colleges across 65 municipalities and 17 territorial entities. The programme links classroom learning with productive activities such as cacao and coffee planting, poultry, aquaculture, pig farming, school gardens and circular‑economy projects. Each school receives specialised teacher training, continuous technical support, agro‑pedagogy expertise and up to 60 million Colombian pesos to develop its projects.

The initiative is implemented in partnership with the University of Antioquia and the Pontifical University Javeriana, which provide formation in communication and marketing for the youth leading these projects. By integrating academic knowledge with local farming know‑how, the government aims to keep young people in rural areas and create new economic opportunities for Colombian countryside communities.
