Colombia expels 11 foreigners from Bucaramanga for safety violations

Authorities in the Bucaramanga metropolitan area have expelled 11 foreign nationals following operations aimed at addressing repeated violations of public coexistence and safety. According to Migración Colombia, the individuals were identified as repeat offenders involved in activities including the illegal possession of sharp weapons, public disturbances, and the consumption or possession of prohibited substances.

The enforcement action follows a directive issued on August 24 by President Abelardo de la Espriella, who ordered intensified controls to identify and deport irregular immigrants or those linked to criminal activities. José Luis Castañeda, director general of Migración Colombia, stated that these coordinated efforts with the National Police and local authorities aim to recover national security and protect citizens.

These measures reflect a broader shift in Colombian migration policy, as the administration seeks to increase pressure on foreign nationals who violate the National Code of Security and Citizen Coexistence. The increased scrutiny has led to a rise in demands for residency permits among migrant populations seeking to regularize their status.
