Colombia intensifies migration enforcement with multiple expulsions

Colombian authorities have intensified migration enforcement operations across several regions, resulting in the expulsion of numerous foreign nationals. In Medellín, a joint operation involving Migración Colombia, the National Police, and the Army led to the expulsion of 17 foreigners. These individuals were identified with criminal records involving theft, drug use, possession of weapons, and brawling. Medellín Mayor Federico Gutiérrez stated that the administration will not tolerate foreigners who commit crimes in the city.

In Bucaramanga, Santander, Migración Colombia expelled 11 foreigners identified as repeat offenders regarding public coexistence infractions. These offenses included the possession of sharp weapons, disturbing public peace, and the consumption of prohibited substances. These actions follow a directive from President Abelardo de la Espriella to tighten migration controls and deport individuals in irregular situations.

The increased enforcement has created significant anxiety among the migrant population, particularly Venezuelan nationals. Many are now rushing to regularize their legal status to avoid deportation, as the threat of being identified and removed has escalated following presidential announcements in late August.
