Honduras prison reforms and Colombian maritime expulsion

Honduras is implementing significant reforms within its penitentiary system. General Walter Amador Lacayo, director of the National Penitentiary Institute (INP), confirmed the transfer of seven Pandilla 18 members, designated as terrorists, to a maximum security module in Támara. This move is part of a broader reorganization to concentrate high-risk inmates in specialized facilities. Additionally, the INP announced a leadership change at the Ilama prison in Santa Bárbara, where Lieutenant Danny Mendoza will succeed Colonel Franklin Josué López. Authorities are also launching investigations into potential collusion between prison staff and criminal elements to prevent the entry of illicit goods.

In a separate incident, the Colombian government expelled 44 Honduran citizens following an operation by the National Navy near San Andrés and Providencia. The individuals were allegedly caught in flagrante delicto conducting illegal fishing and unauthorized exploitation of marine resources in Colombian territorial waters. During the operation, authorities seized 20 small vessels, diving equipment, and approximately 241 kilograms of marine products, including lobster and conch. Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella stated that the measures aim to protect national sovereignty and marine ecosystems.
