Colombia explores converting agricultural waste into energy

Colombia is exploring initiatives to convert agricultural and livestock waste into energy resources. Through an alliance between the Colombian Ministry of Mines and Energy, AGROSAVIA, and Thailand, the country aims to utilize organic materials such as crop residues and livestock waste to produce biogas and biofuels.

Key sectors identified for this circular economy approach include coffee, oil palm, sugarcane, cattle, and pig farming. The initiative seeks to provide economic opportunities for rural communities, reduce environmental impact by minimizing waste, and decrease dependence on conventional energy sources for small and medium-sized producers.
