Colombia: Family of Late Vice President Germán Vargas Lleras Endorses Abelardo de la Espriella

The family of the deceased former Colombian vice‑president Germán Vargas Lleras launched a book titled “La voz que permanece,” a collection of his opinion columns, and used the event to publicly endorse presidential candidate Abelardo de la Espriella. They said the candidate’s program mirrors Vargas Lleras’ positions on public order, security and governance, and stressed that the support is purely ideological with no bureaucratic agreements for future government posts.

Vargas Lleras’ daughter Clemencia also announced the endorsement, urging the incumbent government and rival candidate Iván Cepeda to respect the election outcome whichever side wins. She linked the endorsement to her father’s past calls for unified political support and expressed confidence that the candidate reflects his late father’s legacy.
