Colombia financial sector sees fintech and regulatory shifts
Various academic and corporate developments are shaping the Colombian financial landscape, ranging from fintech innovations to new regulatory standards and risk management strategies.
In the fintech sector, Grupo Aval’s digital wallet, dale!, has introduced a gamification system. Users can earn points through routine financial transactions and digital activities, which can be exchanged for mobile services like data, minutes, and SMS through an alliance with Gane Colombia S. A. S.
On the regulatory and analytical front, research is examining the impact of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) in Colombia. This includes studying how IFRS 18 affects strategic decision-making at Banco Agrario de Colombia S. A., and evaluating the use of machine learning models, specifically XGBoost, to predict default probabilities in corporate credit portfolios under IFRS 9.
Additionally, studies are addressing investment and risk management, such as the influence of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors on the cost of capital for companies listed on the Colombian Stock Exchange, and the effectiveness of Non-Delivery Forwards in mitigating foreign exchange risk for importers.
