Colombia football federation reviews Néstor Lorenzo's future after World Cup qualification

Argentina-born coach Néstor Lorenzo led the Colombia men’s national team to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and to a runner‑up finish at the Copa América. Over four years he managed 51 official matches, recording 31 wins, 12 draws and eight losses, with a goal difference of 96‑44 – a performance rate close to 70 %.

Colombia were eliminated in the round of 16 at the World Cup, losing on penalties to Switzerland. The federation’s assessment now focuses on the team’s lack of generational renewal and whether Lorenzo should continue to guide the project into the next international cycle.

The Colombian Football Federation is expected to decide on Lorenzo’s continuation as senior coach, weighing his recent successes against concerns about squad rejuvenation.
