Colombia formalizes land titles for rural women in Magdalena
The National Land Agency (ANT) has delivered 169 property titles to rural women in the Ciénaga region of Magdalena, formalizing 1,508 hectares of land. The beneficiaries are primarily peasant women and victims of the armed conflict, located in areas such as Córdoba, Palmor, San Pedro de la Sierra, Siberia, and San Javier near the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
This formalization aims to provide legal security, facilitating access to bank credits, rural housing subsidies, productive projects, and technical assistance. The initiative was conducted in observance of International Day of Rural Women.
In a related effort to address land rights, the Land Restitution Unit (URT) held meetings in Santa Marta to review restitution processes in the Magdalena and Atlántico departments. Director Myriam Carolina Martínez Cárdenas met with territorial teams to identify obstacles in recovering rights for victims of forced displacement and land dispossession, emphasizing the need to improve institutional management and comply with judicial orders.
