Colombia highlights historical heritage and coastal tourism

Colombia's coastal regions are gaining recognition for both their historical significance and natural beauty. Cartagena de Indias, known as the ‘heroic city’, played a pivotal role in the South American independence movements. Historian Moisés Álvarez notes that Simón Bolívar utilized the city as a strategic base in 1812 to gather military support and funding, which proved essential for the liberation of Caracas.

In the Santa Marta region, Playa San Juan del Cabo, located within Tayrona National Natural Park, has been named one of the ‘World's 50 Best Beaches’. The destination is noted for its crystal-clear waters, surrounding vegetation, and opportunities for ecotourism, including hiking and camping.
