Colombia honors legacy of vallenato leader Consuelo Araújo Noguera
The Colombian Ministry of Culture held a posthumous tribute in Valledupar to honor the legacy of Consuelo Inés Araújo Noguera, a prominent cultural manager, journalist, and former Minister of Culture. The ceremony marked 25 years since her passing in 2001.
Known as ‘La Cacica’, Araújo Noguera was instrumental in the promotion and preservation of vallenato music and Caribbean Colombian traditions. She was a key figure in consolidating the Festival de la Leyenda Vallenata and worked to elevate the genre to national and international prominence.
During the event, Ana María Abello Restrepo, the Vice Minister of Arts and the Cultural and Creative Economy, presented an honorary plaque to Rodolfo Molina Araújo, president of the Festival de la Leyenda Vallenata Foundation. The tribute included a floral offering at the La Pilonera Mayor monument, celebrating her role in shaping Colombia’s cultural identity.
