Colombia implements gas rationing following Cartagena terminal failure

The Colombian Ministry of Mines and Energy has established a programmed rationing of natural gas following a technical contingency at the SPEC LNG regasification terminal in Cartagena. The failure in one of the facility's four regasification trains has reduced the terminal's capacity from 533 million to 400 million cubic feet per day.

To manage the reduced supply, the government has implemented a priority system. Essential demand, thermal power generation, and industrial activities necessary for crude oil transport to refineries are prioritized. While the rationing is a national measure, authorities have indicated that residential supply and small businesses are among the prioritized users, and no widespread household cuts have been announced.

SPEC LNG estimates that corrective works will take between seven and eight days. The Ministry of Mines and Energy will monitor the situation and only lift the rationing once technical conditions are verified to ensure energy security and reliability.
