Colombia implements urban resilience and social strategies for earthquake recovery

Asocapitales and UN-Habitat are organizing an international webinar titled ‘Cities that Rebuild’ to support Colombian capital cities in their recovery efforts following a recent earthquake. The session aims to share practical lessons from countries like Chile, Turkey, and Syria to improve housing, infrastructure, urban planning, and debris management. Experts from UNDRR and UN-Habitat will discuss integrating risk management into essential infrastructure investment and connecting reconstruction with comprehensive urban governance.

In Cali, local authorities are focusing on social recovery alongside physical reconstruction. Following the earthquake on August 10, the city has launched the ‘Cali es Paz Cívica’ strategy. This initiative emphasizes citizen culture, solidarity, and community cooperation to address the social and emotional impacts of the disaster, aiming to strengthen the social fabric while repairing damaged infrastructure.
