Colombia inaugurates new community sports parks in Rionegro and Tumaco
New community infrastructure projects have been inaugurated in Rionegro and Tumaco, Colombia, aimed at promoting sports, recreation, and social cohesion.
In Rionegro, the Sacúdete Park in Barro Blanco has been opened following an investment of $3.828 billion pesos. The project was a joint effort between the Rionegro Mayor's Office, through the Municipal Institute of Physical Education, Sport and Recreation (IMER), and the National Government via the Ministry of the Interior and FONSECON. The facility includes a multi-sport court, tennis court, outdoor gym, playground, jogging circuit, community hall, and auditorium.
In Tumaco, the Ciudadela Linear Park has been completed with a total investment of $7.496 billion pesos. The 948-meter intervention transforms a previously neglected area near a canal into a space for football, skating, fitness, and cycling. Local officials emphasized that these spaces serve as tools for peacebuilding and social prevention by providing youth with alternatives to violence.
