Colombia invests over 1.8 billion pesos to build safety fences at ten rural schools

The Colombian government, through the Agency for Territorial Renewal (ART) and the Fondo Colombia en Paz, will spend more than 1.8 billion pesos to construct perimeter fences at ten rural schools in the municipalities of La María, La Susana, Soto, Gallinazas, La Albania, Belén, La Mina, El Flayo, Ullucos and El Naranjo. The project aims to improve security and protect educational spaces for students, teachers and families.

Local officials presented preliminary designs and technical details, and a community oversight committee was created to monitor the works. Fred Azkue highlighted the investment as a way to “strengthen the present and future of new generations,” emphasizing that “investing in education is investing in the community’s future.” The initiative seeks to enhance learning conditions while supporting broader development goals in rural Colombia.
