Colombia leverages sustainable tourism and gastronomy for economic growth

Colombia is experiencing a shift toward sustainable tourism and gastronomic development as key drivers for regional economic growth. Local communities in biodiversity-rich areas are increasingly leading conservation-focused travel models. This approach aims to ensure that tourism revenue remains within local economies, improving the quality of life for rural and coastal populations while protecting natural resources.

In the culinary sector, gastronomy has become a strategic asset for national identity and regional competitiveness. During the 19th edition of Sabor Barranquilla, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Mauricio Gómez Amín highlighted the sector's ability to support a wide value chain, including farmers, fishers, and entrepreneurs. The event reported significant economic impact, with sales exceeding 2.4 billion Colombian pesos, marking a 47.45% increase from the previous year and attracting over 22,000 visitors.
