Colombia lifts 30% tariffs on Ecuadorian goods, restoring bilateral trade

Colombia revoked the 30% reciprocal tariff it had imposed on certain Ecuadorian imports by issuing Decree 0583 on 5 June 2026, which fully repeals Decree 170 of 20 February 2026. The measure follows Ecuador’s decision, effective 1 June, to eliminate the security tax and tariffs it had applied to Colombian products. The Andean Community of Nations (CAN) had ordered both countries to remove these barriers and gave a ten‑business‑day deadline. The Colombian decree also notes that, for national‑security reasons, restrictions may still apply to some Ecuadorian goods, and it plans to lift rice tariffs within 45 days to address smuggling concerns. The tariff removal is expected to lower costs for exporters and importers in both nations and revive normal market access across one of the region’s busiest borders.
