Colombia lifts usury ceiling for August 2026 as ICETEX details loan status access

The Superintendencia Financiera de Colombia certified the Interés Bancario Corriente at 19.77% effective 1‑31 August 2026, a rise of 58 basis points from July. Consequently, the legal usury rate for consumer and ordinary credit will be set at 29.66% annual, with higher caps for other credit categories (e.g., low‑amount consumer credit 65.46%, productive rural credit 33.56%). Exceeding these limits constitutes the crime of usury under Colombian law.

The Instituto Colombiano de Crédito Educativo y Estudios Técnicos en el Exterior (ICETEX) explained how borrowers can check the status of their education loans through its virtual office. Users must log in with a registered account, then can view account balances, payment schedules, and other loan details.
