Colombia LPG imports could exceed 70% of national demand by 2027

Colombia is facing a growing reliance on imported Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) to meet its energy needs. According to the Colombian LPG Association (Gasnova), imports currently account for 61% of the country's total demand. If the growth trends observed in the first half of 2026 continue, imports could exceed 70% of the national requirement by early 2027.

This shift is driven by a decrease in domestic LPG supply and a significant rise in consumption within the industrial and commercial sectors, which saw a 41.3% increase in 2026 compared to 2025. Despite the increasing dependence on foreign supply, the national market has remained stable because regulated domestic prices have been tied to the international Mont Belvieu index for over a decade.

Gasnova will address these energy challenges and the status of private investment projects in import infrastructure during its 8th International LPG Congress, scheduled for August 19 and 20 in Bogotá.
