Colombia maintains network of 1,569 public libraries

Colombia currently operates a total of 1,569 public libraries through the National Network of Public Libraries (RNBP). These institutions are distributed across the national territory and organized into departmental and district networks.

The network includes departmental, district, municipal, and rural libraries, as well as libraries for community councils and indigenous reserves. Coordinated by the Ministry of Culture via the National Library of Colombia, these spaces provide bibliographic and technological resources, staff training, and serve as essential infrastructure for culture, knowledge, and historical memory.
