Colombia: Three soldiers killed in Meta explosive attacks
Three Colombian soldiers were killed and several others injured following two separate attacks in the Meta department on Monday, September 21. The first incident occurred in the rural area of La Macarena, specifically in the La Unión district, where troops from the 35th Rapid Deployment Battalion triggered improvised explosive devices. The deceased have been identified as Elkin Quinto Mosquera, Jesús Adrián Ramírez Carrillo, and Óscar David Monterroza Suárez.
A second attack was reported in Vistahermosa, Meta, in the Puerto Chorizo area. In this instance, troops from the 31st Rapid Deployment Battalion were targeted by an explosive device followed by long-range gunfire, resulting in two injuries.
The Colombian Army has preliminarily attributed these attacks to the Ever Castro structure of the Jorge Suárez Briceño Block, a faction of FARC dissidents led by Alexander Díaz Mendoza, also known as alias ‘Calarcá’.
President Abelardo de la Espriella responded to the violence by ordering the intensification of military operations to apprehend those responsible, stating that the deaths of the soldiers would not go unpunished.
