Colombia military operations kill 7 FARC dissidents and capture ELN leader

Colombian President Abelardo De la Espriella announced a series of successful military operations against armed groups across the country. In El Peñol, Nariño, security forces engaged the Franco Benavides front of the FARC dissidents (Estado Mayor Central), resulting in the deaths of seven members and the capture of five others. During this operation, authorities seized an M4 rifle, a pistol, eight handmade grenades, and 946 cartridges.

In a separate operation in La Sierra, Cauca, coordinated efforts between public forces and the Prosecutor's Office CTI led to the capture of an ELN leader known as 'el Flaco.' He is identified as a commission leader for the Manuel Vásquez Castaño Front and is allegedly linked to extortion, kidnapping, and forced recruitment in the Macizo Colombiano region. Weapons and communication equipment were also recovered during this arrest.

Additionally, authorities reported drug trafficking seizures in Barrancabermeja, where they confiscated 6,000 milliliters of ketamine and 600 milliliters of fentanyl.
