Colombia military service: updated benefits and recruitment rules

The Colombian National Army manages military service requirements and benefits for both men and women. While service is mandatory for men aged 18 to 24 to define their military status, it remains strictly voluntary for women. Women may serve for up to 18 months, depending on the chosen military modality.

Starting in 2026, a salary increase was approved for those performing military service, raising the monthly remuneration from 70% to 100% of the minimum wage, established at 1,750,905 pesos. Additional financial benefits include a final bonus equivalent to 1.5 times the minimum wage and a one-time payment of one minimum wage upon discharge for civilian clothing.

Service members also receive access to various social and educational benefits, including healthcare services, food and housing, and vocational training through Sena. Furthermore, personnel can access special credit lines via Icetex and tuition discounts or full scholarships for continuing military careers.
