Colombia Ministry of Education demands explanations from university rectors

The Colombian Ministry of Education has issued formal requests for information to the rectors of the University of Córdoba and the University of Cauca following allegations of administrative irregularities.

At the University of Córdoba, Rector Jairo Miguel Torres Oviedo must provide documentation regarding the election process for alumni representatives. The Ministry's Subdirectorate of Inspection and Vigilance is investigating concerns related to the election schedule, the dissemination of calls for candidates, the verification of applicant requirements, and the electronic voting system. The university has fifteen business days to respond.

Simultaneously, the Ministry has demanded explanations from Deibar René Hurtado Herrera, Rector of the University of Cauca, regarding allegations of corruption and administrative misconduct. The investigation covers thirteen specific points, including unjustified salary increases, labor reclassifications, alleged nepotism, and potential political favoritism intended to support the rector's reelection. The administration has five business days to submit evidence and documentation addressing these claims.
