Colombia Ministry of Education seeks to repeal sexual education policy

Colombia’s Ministry of Education has requested the Presidency to repeal Resolution 1350 of 2026, which established the National Intersectoral Policy on Sexuality, Sexual Rights, and Reproductive Rights for the 2026–2035 period.

In an official letter addressed to Presidential Legal Secretary Andrés Barreto González, Minister of Education Ilva Myriam Hoyos Castañeda raised constitutional and legal concerns regarding the policy. The Ministry argued that the resolution could impact school autonomy and the rights of parents to direct their children's education. Additionally, the Ministry questioned the funding of the proposed measures and noted that the policy sets commitments through 2035, despite the underlying planning cycle covering only 2022–2026.

The Ministry has proposed two immediate actions: a collaborative review of the resolution involving the Ministries of Education, Health, Labor, and Culture, and the issuance of a presidential directive to suspend the implementation of the policy while this review is conducted.
