Colombia Ministry of Health reports $32.5 billion peso discrepancy in hospital funds
Colombia’s Ministry of Health has reported potential irregularities involving approximately $32.5 billion pesos in resources intended for public hospitals. Health Minister Ana María Vesga has referred the matter to the Attorney General's Office (Fiscalía General de la Nación) to investigate administrative decisions made during the previous administration under Guillermo Alfonso Jaramillo.
The discrepancy stems from five resolutions issued between July 24 and August 5, 2026, which allocated $33.635 billion pesos in funds that lacked sufficient budgetary backing. While the resolutions committed these amounts, the corresponding budget certificates only showed $1.129 billion pesos available.
The Ministry is working with oversight bodies, including the Procuraduría and the Contraloría, to determine how these administrative decisions were processed and whether they constitute criminal or administrative offenses. The investigation aims to clarify who approved the resolutions and why the technical and legal supports did not match the available budget.
