Colombia Ministry of Health reports progress in medication delivery plan
Colombia’s Ministry of Health has reported that over 50% of patients with pending medication requests have had their cases resolved under the national ‘Plan de Choque en Salud’. As of October 14, the plan shows a 42.89% advancement in delivering reported pending medications, with Health Minister Ana María Vesga noting that 12,514,638 units have been delivered by EPS providers.
In the Valle del Cauca department, authorities reported the delivery of over 700,000 pending medications and the completion of more than 16,000 medical procedures. While these figures represent progress, local health officials, including Secretary María Cristina Lesmes, cautioned that these measures are intended to alleviate the crisis rather than provide a definitive solution to systemic issues.
The most significant concentrations of both pending cases and resolved cases are located in Bogotá, Antioquia, Valle del Cauca, Cundinamarca, and Norte de Santander. The Ministry continues to monitor 87% of pending records to ensure service verification and strengthen oversight of EPS providers.
