Colombia Ministry of Transport initiates National Traffic Code reform
The Colombian government has launched a public consultation process to reform the National Traffic Code, which has been in effect for over two decades. Led by the Ministry of Transport, the initiative aims to modernize mobility regulations, vehicle technical conditions, administrative procedures, and the sanctions regime.
Minister of Transport Elsa Noguera stated that the goal is to create legislation that protects lives and ensures rule enforcement while considering the economic and social realities of those who use the roads for work, study, or transporting goods. The reform process will occur before a formal bill is presented to the Congress of the Republic.
To gather input, the Ministry has scheduled four regional meetings in major cities:
• Bogotá: October 19 at Universidad de los Andes • Barranquilla: October 22 at Universidad del Norte • Cali: October 26 at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana • Medellín: November 3 at Universidad Nacional de Colombia
In addition to these in-person sessions, a digital platform will be available for citizens, transport sectors, motorcyclists, pedestrians, and cyclists to submit observations and proposals.
