Colombia mourns singer Yeison Jiménez with tributes and family battles fake accounts

Six months after the death of popular Colombian singer Yeison Jiménez in a light‑aircraft crash, friends, family and fans gathered in Bogotá to honor him. A mural by artist Miguel Klos was unveiled at Plaza de Corabastos, and his posthumous single “Mala de profesión” was released on 23 July. The following day, the Movistar Arena hosted a commemorative concert on the first National Day of Popular Music, where Jiménez’s widow Sonia Restrepo broke down in tears.

Jiménez’s sister Lina Jiménez told the programme La Red that the family has faced a wave of false social‑media accounts, attempts to hijack the singer’s business interests and hacking of official pages. She said they have stopped responding to misinformation after becoming exhausted by the barrage of lies.

The events highlight both the cultural impact of Jiménez’s music in Colombia and the challenges his relatives face in protecting his legacy online.
