Colombia National Police announce commander transfers in San Andrés and Tolima

The Colombian National Police are implementing leadership changes in several departments. Colonel James Totena Girón is stepping down as commander of the San Andrés, Providencia, and Santa Catalina Police Department to take on new duties in the Boyacá Police Department. During his tenure in the archipelago, Totena Girón noted advancements in criminal investigation capabilities, including doubling the number of judicial police investigators and strengthening the SIJÍN and GAULA units.

In Tolima, Colonel Jhon Anderson Vargas Izao is expected to be transferred to Bogotá to serve in the National Police Protection Directorate. While an official successor for the Tolima command has not yet been confirmed, the transition comes amid ongoing security challenges in the region, including homicide, micro-trafficking, and general crime in Ibagué and surrounding municipalities.
