Colombia National Police celebrates 135 years
The Colombian National Police is marking its 135th anniversary, having been founded on November 5, 1891. Director General Major General Jesús Alejandro Barrera Peña highlighted that the institution was officially declared the heritage of Colombians through Law 2600 on July 9, 2026.
To guide the institution's future, Barrera Peña outlined three strategic pillars: the strengthening of personnel through improved training and welfare, the modernization of the entity via austere and sustainable administration, and the transformation of public service. The service model aims to utilize intelligence and technology to anticipate risks and combat organized crime and criminal economies by targeting their financial structures.
