Colombia advances major electricity transmission projects
The Colombian Energy Regulation Commission (CREG) issued Acuerdo Complementario 001, establishing the remuneration framework for the planned cross‑border electricity interconnection with Panama. The agreement is intended to reduce regulatory uncertainty and improve the financial viability of the project, and CREG pledged continued coordination with Panama’s regulator ASEP to advance the roadmap.
The National Environmental Licensing Authority (ANLA) approved a second modification to the environmental license for the La Loma–Sogamoso 500 kV transmission line. The amendment authorises additional construction work, including new tower sites, maneuver areas and access routes, and is aimed at enabling the line to convey power from wind farms in La Guajira to central Colombia.
Bolívar Governor Yulisbeth García announced the need for a new transmission line from the Macagua substation to increase capacity in the region’s substations, citing that the existing line is overloaded and has caused outages, especially in Guasipati.
