Colombia peace accord faces cuts; UN backs JEP

The Unidad de Implementación del Acuerdo Final de Paz (UIAFP) warned that the incoming Colombian government’s proposals to dismantle the implementation agency and other peace‑related bodies could undermine the constitutional protections of the 2016 peace deal with the former FARC. Citing Legislative Act 02 of 2017 and Constitutional Court rulings, the UIAFP stressed that the agreement is a state policy, not a temporary political commitment, and that any restructuring must preserve its substantive commitments.

In a separate development, the United Nations Security Council endorsed the work of Colombia’s Jurisdicción Especial para la Paz (JEP), praising its first rulings against former FARC members and security forces. The Council highlighted a $13 million contribution from the UN Multi‑Donor Fund to support local peace projects, de‑mining, and the JEP’s restorative sanctions, and called on the Colombian government to safeguard the progress made and accelerate implementation of peace commitments.
