Colombia prepares for territorial elections in Nariño

Political activity is intensifying in Colombia ahead of upcoming territorial elections. In the Nariño department and the city of Pasto, candidates are already engaging with social sectors, community organizations, and business leaders to prepare for the vote. The electoral calendar will officially begin next month with the registration of identification cards.

According to the Registraduría Nacional del Estado Civil, citizens will vote for governors, mayors of 64 municipalities, deputies, councilors, and local administrators. The elections are scheduled for the last Sunday of October, with elected officials serving four-year terms.

Amidst this mobilization, internal challenges face the Pacto Histórico coalition. Observers note that divisions and fragmentation within the alliance could hinder its ability to secure territorial power, potentially allowing right-wing opposition to consolidate influence during the upcoming contests.
