Colombia President announces Eje Cafetero tourism as state policy
President Abelardo De La Espriella has announced plans to establish tourism in the Eje Cafetero region as a state policy to drive economic growth. During a visit to Quimbaya, Quindío, the President emphasized the region's potential and outlined several recovery measures following an earthquake on August 10.
To support recovery, the government will allocate 2,000 million pesos through Fontur to assist 107 tourism establishments in Filandia and Circasia. Additionally, iNNpulsa will provide 1,000 million pesos to support micro-businesses and informal enterprises affected by the seismic event, with individual beneficiaries receiving up to 5 million pesos.
The administration is also evaluating a proposal to reduce the Value Added Tax (VAT) on air tickets traveling to or from the affected areas of the Eje Cafetero. While the President expressed strong intention to implement this measure, the government is currently assessing its fiscal impact. Furthermore, the President is preparing a round of meetings with national and international investors to solicit new projects in Quindío.
