Colombia reinforces security for Supreme Court magistrates following threats

In Colombia, President Abelardo De la Espriella has ordered immediate security reinforcements for the magistrates of the Supreme Court's Criminal Cassation Chamber. This follows alerts from the Court regarding potential threats to its members and officials. Investigations are underway by the Police and Prosecutor's Office into incidents such as a projectile found in the office of a prosecutor and reported broken windows, which may be linked to the conviction of former governor Juan Francisco Gómez Cerchar.

Additionally, the Colombian judiciary is addressing other security and human rights issues. A judge in Bogotá has issued a provisional order to suspend military aerial operations in areas where there is verifiable evidence of the presence of minors recruited by illegal armed groups. Separately, the government has bolstered security at the Palogordo high-security prison with advanced technology, including drones and body cameras, following the transfer of high-profile criminal leaders.
