Colombia prioritizes Caribbean infrastructure and logistics development
The Colombian government and industry leaders are prioritizing infrastructure and logistics development in the Caribbean region. The Ministry of Transport has identified three strategic pillars: strengthening regional road corridors, modernizing airport infrastructure, and improving port access through multimodal connectivity.
In Barranquilla, the local government has officially assumed the administration and operation of the landside areas of the Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport for an 18-month period. Supported by a 40 billion peso investment plan, the district aims to improve passenger experiences by expanding international zones, upgrading migration areas, and renovating climate control systems.
The Colombian Chamber of Infrastructure (CCI) has called for the acceleration of ongoing works and the resolution of payment delays to ensure investment continuity. Additionally, the Senate's First Commission has advanced a project to transform the current Caribbean Administrative and Planning Region (RAP Caribe) into a Territorial Entity Region (RET), which would grant the seven Caribbean departments greater institutional autonomy and dedicated funding for regional challenges.
