Colombia proposes 150-kilometer minimum distance between tolls

A new bill has been introduced in the Colombian Congress to regulate the installation and operation of highway tolls. Proposed by Senator Luis Carlos Rúa, the legislation seeks to establish a minimum distance of 150 kilometers between toll booths to prevent excessive proximity, citing instances in Antioquia where booths are located only 1.5 kilometers apart.

The proposal includes the creation of a national toll registry to consolidate information on existing collection points and improve coordination between different managing entities. Additionally, the bill suggests implementing differential tariffs for frequent users who travel specific routes regularly due to work or health reasons.

To ensure better management of infrastructure funds, the initiative proposes that resources collected through Invías be administered via an independent fund dedicated specifically to road maintenance.
