Colombia proposes constitutional amendment for fetal protection

The Colombian House of Representatives has introduced a legislative project to amend Article 11 of the Political Constitution. The initiative aims to strengthen the constitutional protection of human life from the moment of fertilization and to recognize the human being in gestation as a subject entitled to special constitutional protection.

The project, filed during the 2026-2027 legislature, was authored by a group of representatives including Arledy Alvarado Patiño and Carol Stefanny Borda Acevedo, with additional authors listed in the Senate.
