Colombia Prosecutor investigates cartoonist Matador

The Colombian Attorney General's Office has opened a preliminary investigation into cartoonist Julio César González Quiceno, known as ‘Matador’, for alleged aggravated insult against First Lady Ana Lucía Pineda. The investigation, handled by the Gender-Based Violence Group, was initiated ex officio due to concerns regarding potential violence against women.

The probe follows a post on X (formerly Twitter) in which González Quiceno referred to the First Lady as ‘ratita’ while questioning the distribution of aid following a 7.4 magnitude earthquake in Pereira. The earthquake, which occurred in August 2026, resulted in over 330 deaths and significant destruction.

González Quiceno responded to the investigation with sarcasm on social media, making ironic remarks about the possibility of being imprisoned. The First Lady’s foundation, Colombia Luz y Sonrisas, has reported receiving over 54 billion pesos in donations intended for reconstruction efforts.
