Colombia pushes forward box culvert infrastructure in Socha and Bogotá

The municipality of Soacha will build a new concrete box culvert to channel stormwater beneath a major road, linking the neighborhoods Villa Mercedes, La Meseta and Luis Carlos Galán II. The project, funded with an investment of about 204 million Colombian pesos, is being carried out by the Institute of Roads and Constructions of Cundinamarca (ICCU) under emergency contract ICCU‑CTO‑1649‑2025 and was announced by Mayor Julián Sánchez.

In Bogotá, the District Mobility Secretariat has approved a nine‑month lane closure on Avenida Carrera 15 between Calles 85 and 87 in Chapinero, starting 10 July 2026, to install a box‑culvert as part of the Quora Partial Plan. A traffic‑management plan redirects vehicles, public‑transport stops and pedestrians, and allows cyclists to use the remaining lanes while the work proceeds around the clock.
