Colombia raises Sunday work premium and sets July deadline for pension regime transfers

From 1 July 2026 Colombia will increase the surcharge for work on Sundays and public holidays from 80 % to 90 %, as part of Labor Reform Law 2466 of 2025 approved by Congress and President Gustavo Petro. The reform also reduces the standard work week from 44 to 42 hours starting 15 July, changing the base for overtime and hourly wage calculations.

A separate deadline is set for 16 July 2026 for the “window of opportunity” that allows eligible workers to transfer between the public pension system (Colpensiones) and private funds such as Colfondos, Porvenir, Protección and Skandia. Over 153,000 transfers have already been processed. Eligibility requires women over 47 with at least 750 weeks of contributions or men over 52 with at least 900 weeks. The process is free and includes a mandatory “double advisory” from both the current and prospective administrators.
