Colombia ranks second in Latin America for cyberattack frequency

Colombia has become the second most targeted country for cyberattacks in Latin America, according to a report by Check Point Research. Organizations in Colombia face an average of 4,090 cyberattacks per week, trailing only Brazil, which averages 4,118 weekly attacks. Mexico ranks third in the region with approximately 3,548 weekly attacks.

Across Latin America, companies receive an average of 3,364 attacks per week, marking a 20% increase from the previous year. This rise is attributed to the expansion of digital transformation, which has increased the attack surface for cloud platforms, digital services, and connected corporate devices.

In terms of response capabilities, a study by Frost & Sullivan reveals that only 14.5% of organizations can respond to a cybersecurity incident in less than 12 hours. While 53% of companies increased their cybersecurity budgets last year, many still struggle with business continuity. The primary impacts of these incidents include system unavailability (36%), personal data breaches (28%), and increased regulatory oversight (28%).
