Colombia reactivates education for 99.3% of earthquake-affected students

Forty-five days after the earthquake on August 10, educational services have been reactivated for 99.3% of the affected student population in Colombia. This represents 1,266,327 students who have returned to learning environments.

Several departments, including Risaralda, Antioquia, Quindío, Santander, Bolívar, Caldas, Caquetá, Cundinamarca, Norte de Santander, Huila, Tolima, and Sucre, have achieved 100% reactivation for their reported affected enrollment. Other regions show high progress, such as Valle del Cauca at 98.8%, Nariño at 96.9%, Chocó at 95.9%, and Cauca at 94%.

To support this recovery, the national government issued several legislative decrees and directives to guarantee the right to education through infrastructure recovery, safe learning spaces, and flexible educational strategies. The Ministry of Education continues to monitor the remaining 0.7% of students, totaling 8,882 individuals, to ensure full service restoration.
